In 2026, I spent time in an artistic residency in Trenčín, Slovakia, for the Ozveny program, part of Trenčín European Capital of Culture 2026.

During the residency, sound artist Kenny Kneefel and I walked around the forest, making visual and sound recordings that would inform the installation. During these hikes, we stumbled upon the interrupted club moss. A vascular plant that’s been around for millions of years.

I found out it’s also a distant relative of the Lepidodendron tree, or Scale Tree. A tree that dominated the landscape around 300 million years ago.

Using the Arbor software, we generated versions of those ancient trees, along with a sound composition based on tree and field recordings.

Arbor has always been developed with deep time in mind. With the idea of giving people a different sense of time and connecting them with a distant past.
